About the woman who thought she was a dog, Sonia Rammer: performance, 2022

The series of performances initiated at the Oqaatsut residency is an extension of my earlier creative explorations. In a post-humanist spirit, I look at the relationship of humans to other species. This time I was interested in dogs, which occupy a special place in Greenland, both as service animals and as characters in tales and legends. Dogs are unique creatures. As the only domesticated animals in Greenland, they provided a link between the world of humans and wildlife. The short videos capture both my romantic longing to be closer to nature and touch on the theme of the transformation of humans into animals, often present in Greenlandic legends. During the expeditions, which lasted throughout the residency, I experienced the terrain on two as well as four limbs, which expanded the context of the work to include the experience of the body, not only at the level of perceived cold, but also in relation to the sense of balance and non-human perception. In addition, each shot is accompanied by an aura of mystery and ambiguity. Depending on the scale, the figure appears as a hard-to-define, four-legged creature, a human-animal hybrid, a woman-dog, a disappearing black shape.

Seria performansów zapoczątkowanych na rezydencji w Oqaatsut jest rozwinięciem moich wcześniejszych poszukiwań twórczych. W posthumanistycznym duchu przyglądam się relacji człowieka wobec innych gatunków. Tym razem zainteresowały mnie psy, które na Grenlandii zajmują szczególne miejsce, zarówno jako zwierzęta użytkowe jak i będące bohaterami podań i legend. Psy są istotami wyjątkowymi. Jako jedyne udomowione zwierzęta na Grenlandii, stanowią łącznik między światem ludzi a dziką naturą. Krótkie filmy wideo oddają zarówno moją romantyczną tęsknotę za byciem bliżej natury jak i dotykają często obecnego w grenlandzkich podaniach motywu transformacji człowieka w zwierzę. W trakcie trwających, przez cały pobyt rezydencji, ekspedycji, doświadczałam ukształtowania terenu na dwóch, jak i czterech kończynach, co poszerzyło kontekst pracy o doświadczenia ciała, nie tylko na poziomie odczuwalnego zimna, ale też w relacji do zmysłu równowagi oraz innej niż ludzka percepcji. Dodatkowo każdemu z ujęć towarzyszy aura tajemniczości i niejednoznaczności. W zależności od skali postać jawi się jako trudna do zdefiniowania, czworonożna istota, ludzko-zwierzęca hybryda, kobieta - pies, znikający czarny kształt.
